Biography
Jochen Schmalbach has been playing drums in various pop and rock bands since he was 14 years old.In the early 1990s he went to London and worked for different studios as a sound engineer. Here he had the opportunity to work on recordings with top international artists such as Sly & Robbie, Maxi Priest, Skunk Anansie, etc. Back in Germany, Jochen became increasingly more successful as a mixer, remixer and producer. The first single he produced in Germany, “Solo” by Tomas D. with Nina Hagen, became a huge success. Various single remixes followed.In the last six years, Jochen has produced tracks for e.g. the DJ team Tiefschwarz, and composed and mixed songs. In this constellation he won the “German Dance Award” for the “Spectrum Remix” in 2005. He went on to make remixes for Madonna, Missy Elliot, Depeche Mode and many more.In 2006 the song “Damage” (feat. Tracey Thorn), composed and produced by Jochen and Tracey Thorn, from the Tiefschwarz album “Eat Books” was nominated at the 49th Grammy Awards in the category “Best Remixed Recording”.He is currently working and producing songs for e.g. Die Fantastischen Vier, Turntable Rocker, Thomas D., Marcus Meyn (Mine), Mediengruppe Telekommander, DJ Kaos and many others.Jochen’s passion is transporting the classic “live band constellation” into a new and yet “live character”-dominated world by adding electro sounds and programming.
